This sign was pulled in by volunteers at the 7th Street Landing in La Crosse. A little research showed it should have been located just North of Fountain City. How did it end up in the water? Bad weather? Bad driver? Bad luck? Whatever popped it loose, it floated almost 40 miles downstream!
The 2019 River Clean Up is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th. Come help. Volunteers of all ages spend a morning rolling up their sleeves and getting dirty. In the last 25 years our community has pulled almost 650,000 pounds of trash from the water that surrounds us. Come help.
The Soak it Up! Project and Grow La Crosse are partnering to construct a water friendly urban landscape and edible schoolyard at Hamilton Early Learning Center and School of Technology and Arts in La Crosse.
The schoolyard will include a bio-filter rain garden, multiple water harvesting barrels, native plants, pollinator garden, fruiting trees, edible shrubs, willow arch, a raspberry patch, beautiful educational signage and an outdoor classroom area.
GROW has built other edible schoolyards at State Road, Hintgen, La Crescent-Hokah, and Spence elementary schools, as well as Gundersen Childcare Center. This is the first collaboration with The Soak it Up! Project. Together we will bring hands on science based learning opportunities to Hamilton students, their families and the surrounding community.
