The Soak it Up! Project

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT WHAT THE MELTING SNOW IS LEAVING BEHIND
Some smokers don’t think twice about throwing a cigarette butt out the window. Or in this case, emptying their entire collection in the Valley View Mall parking lot. Used cigarette filters can take up to TEN YEARS to decompose. They are full of toxins, which can leach into the ground and waterways, damaging living organisms that come into contact with them.
Oil sheens can be seen in abundance this time of year. Is it gas or oil that leaked from an old vehicle? Did someone dump their cooking grease or a household chemical this winter? Either way, oil sheens like this can be catastrophic to wildlife. OIL CANNOT DISSOLVE IN WATER! OIL IS A PERMANENT POLLUTANT!
