Volunteers work hard, and get dirty making our communities even better, and they deserve to celebrate.
The La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group, creators of The Soak It Up!Project, will celebrate the launch of the new stormwater award program. The Soak It Up! Project will honor home and business owners, who have taken the initiative to reduce runoff pollution on their own property.
From 8am to Noon, at specific landings, River Clean Up volunteers will pull trash and debris from the Mississippi River and its boundary waters. From 4pm-7pm, at Pearl Street Brewery, we will celebrate both the River Clean Up and The Soak It Up! Project. Bring the entire family out for an evening of local food, local music and local beer.
Big things on the horizon for the La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group. Including a new website!
What’s Next For The La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group
As the La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group, we are committed to a long term plan, and we realized we needed a website upgrade to achieve it. This year we launched a modern site that makes it easy for users to learn about the basics of stormwater runoff and understand how they can help, all while viewing breathtaking photos of the beauty that is La Crosse county. Take a look for yourself.
Also this year, we will launch an annual award for members of our community who’ve taken the initiative to do a stormwater project on their own property. Introducing: The Soak It Up! Project Award. Has your neighbor recently installed a rain garden? Nominate them. Do you know a small business that is trying to minimize asphalt and other hard surfaces? Nominate them. Do you plan to put in your first rain barrel? Nominate yourself. Any property owner who is putting in the work to make our communities better places to live, work and play, deserves a little recognition.
The La Crosse Urban Stormwater Group is local governments working together to educate you, residents and small business owners, about what stormwater runoff is, why it’s bad, and what can be done about it. We are making progress, but the work is so big that our waters will continue to be polluted from runoff without the buy-in of individual property owners. We need to Soak It Up!
ALL runoff in La Crosse County flows into the stormwater system, and makes its way to our rivers, lakes and streams.
NONE of this stormwater is filtered or treated. Along the way, stormwater picks up trash, debris and chemicals.
Educate yourself and become part of the solution. Forward this email on to your contacts and ask them to become part of the solution. Simple changes can reduce polluted runoff to all La Crosse area waters.
